As reported in the Washington Business Journal on April 15, 2015, the four-building SAIC campus on Leesburg Pike and Greensboro Drive, has a new name and plans for initial development.
Meridian Group of Bethesda has designated the 18-acre site as “The Boro,” suggesting a destination site which is in keeping with their “mixed-use environment with an urban tone where residents, visitors and tenants all gather to live, work, relax and play,” according to President David Cheek. Meridian may bring its plans to the Planning Commission and Board of Supervisors as early as this fall.
One of the initial pieces, Block A, would be mostly residential with up to 710 residential units and 110,000 square feet of retail. Building B3 would provide an additional 125 residential units and 55,000 square feet of retail.
Block C would have two commercial buildings, one for office space and one for entertainment plus two public parks. A future third building may house a hotel or residences.
Ultimately The Boro will have eight new buildings, in addition to three existing buildings. The overall plan proposes up to 2305 residential units, approximately two million square feet of office, and up to 266,000 square feet of retail and entertainment use.
